MP backs biodiesel tax break project

29 June 2011

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of little companies in Cornwall currently generate income from utilized cooking oil".

He included: "In order to have the ability to get this sort of market going it does require just a bit of lift which can be found in the form of tax inevitable."

Biodiesel is a blend of standard diesel, rapeseed and veggie oils.
